Prosemica

The proxemics is the discipline that studies the space and the distances within of a communication, both verbal and nonverbal.

The term was coined and introduced by anthropologist Edward T. Hall in 1963 to indicate the study of relations proximity communication.

Hall noted that the distance between people is related to the physical distance, defined and measured and then four "zones" interpersonal

The intimate distance (0-45 cm).

The personal distance (45-120 cm) for the interaction between friends.

social distance (1.2 to 3.5 meters) for communication between acquaintances or manager-employee relationship.

public distance (over 3.5 meters) for public relations.

In the book "The Hidden Dimension," Hall observed that the distance at which you feel comfortable with other people around you depends on your culture: Saudis, Norwegians The Italians and the Japanese have in fact different concepts of proximity.
Arabs prefer to stay close together, almost side by side, Europeans and Asians take place instead outside the range of the arm. In some regions of southern India, where the distance that belonging to different castes have to keep each other is firmly established, when individuals of the lowest caste (untouchables) meet the Brahmins, the highest caste, must keep at a distance of 39 meters.
Another difference is that between the sexes, males are more at ease at the side of a person, but the female face.
Particular importance has also bought the proxemics of 'lift, for example, Europeans are placed in an elevator in a circle with their backs against the wall, while the Americans are placed in line with the face turned to the door.
